The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) supports the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in their call for an increase in the national minimum wage. The NANS encourages the Federal Government to accept the labor union’s offer in the interest of Nigerian workers.
According to the press release issued by NANS President Pedro Obi, present economic realities have substantially decreased the ordinary Nigerian worker’s purchasing power.

“The rise in inflation, increasing living expenses, and the naira’s continuous depreciation have made it increasingly difficult for many households to satisfy their basic demands. Within this setting, organized labor’s demands for a livable wage become not only legitimate, but also necessary.”

As a result, we urge the government at large to start a productive conversation with the labor union in order to work out an amicable minimum wage agreement.
